K9 Ultimo is turning seven, and he’s celebrating the only way he knows how: working hard, winning at tug-of-war and conducting a thorough inspection of the birthday treats. Born in Germany, Ultimo serves alongside his handler in the patrol division. He is also known for being very vocal while he works, making sure everyone knows when he is on the job. Off duty, he enjoys spending time with his Golden Retriever roommate, Alabaster, who may or may not be assisting with the treat investigation. Happy birthday, Ultimo! Thank you for seven years of loyalty, service and plenty of enthusiastic commentary. 🐾🎉

For the past two weeks, our Animal Control Unit has been helping evacuate and care for animals affected by the Aspen Acres Fire. During one early morning shift, a rooster escaped from a vehicle and was left behind near an area where predators had been spotted. Later that day, Supervisor Dow, Officer Moore and a local volunteer spotted him in a field. After some creative driving, close calls and unexpected cardio, they safely captured him with a net. He was given food, water and a safe place to stay while volunteers worked to find him a good home. Thank you to our Animal Control officers and everyone protecting animals during the wildfires!
UPDATE: The rooster is now named Houdini and has found a happy home with a bunch of chickens!
